The graph shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries: Japan, the USA, and Sweden. In 1940, the proportion of older people was highest in Sweden, at approximately 7%. This was followed by the USA and then Japan, both at around 5%.

Over the next few decades, the proportion of older people in all three countries increased. By 1960, Japan had the highest proportion of older people, at around 7%, while the USA and Sweden were both at around 10%.

Between 1960 and 2040, the proportion of older people in all three countries continued to increase. However, Japan experienced the most rapid growth, reaching a peak of around 28% in 2040. Sweden also saw a significant increase, reaching around 25%. The USA had a slower rate of growth, reaching around 21% in 2040.

Overall, the graph shows that the proportion of older people is increasing in all three countries, but at different rates. Japan is experiencing the most rapid growth, while the USA is growing at a slower rate. Sweden has consistently had a high proportion of older people, but its rate of growth is slower than Japan's.
